Participation of Nurses in National Politics and Health Policy Development at Meru Level 5 General Hospital

The nurses in Kenya have the numerical power because they form highest population of health care system Kenya. Despite this, been unable to a strong voice champion their rights and influence policy formulation at tables. In hospital management national level, hold mostly subordinate roles compared medical counterparts. No record exists for who made it Kenyan National Parliament Senate. Literature on participation Nurses politics is scanty. This makes situation wanting without nurses’ legislative arena nursing profession will retrogress. purpose study therefore aims determining development. specific focus was find out knowledge, perception development adopted descriptive cross- sectional design. Self-administered questionnaires were used collect data. sample size 49 registered nurses. Simple random sampling select respondents. Knowledge assessed using set questions that scored Likert scale. Data analyzed Microsoft Excel 2007. findings revealed Meru Level 5 General Hospital had limited healthcare development, with political majorly voting general elections implementation respectively. Very few engaged agenda setting, evaluation stages. 92% reported good profession, 65% expressing discussions direct impact salaries working conditions.
